Packing a Punch: Brief History of UK Skinhead Zines
Packing a Punch: Brief History of UK Skinhead Zines
When a large part of the skinhead revival went crazy on glue and started down the road to dodgy politics a small but dedicated group of "sussed" skins kept the faith. This book by David Rumsey provides a wealth of information on the zines which sprang out of that scene. Those zines were the lifeblood of the sussed scene in an age before social media.
Best of all, Mr. Rumsey is a true believer covering the scene he loves and not an outsider looking to profit by pontificating about a scene that they don't understand.
The 120 page book features exhaustive coverage of the zines including photos of zine covers, classic artwork, and interviews with some of the authors of the zines which are discussed.
A true labor of love and the kind of thing that gets obsessives excited. I'm guessing that applies to you if you're reading this.
